On Wednesday 29th March, Lumina was pleased to attend TV Connect, one of the most innovative industry conventions in the media calendar. Featuring debates and panel discussions with some of the most respected innovators in the media sector, attendees found themselves on the pulse of emerging developments within this rapidly-evolving market.
Companies exhibiting at the convention ranged from OTT solutions specialists such as Netgem; smart technology experts such as Huawei; and streaming media platforms such as Magine and Simplestream.
Among the fantastic array of seminars, we were fortunate enough to catch Michael Underhill from Ooyala discussing the importance of content choice for consumers (how strategically presenting several key titles can aid viewer retention for content platforms), and how SVODs such as Mubi can carve a niche for themselves by offering minimal Editor-led content libraries as a unique service to attract and retain its target demographic.
We also saw Adobe’s Steve Farmer discuss changes in content consumption habits he has observed in his own home – that in the space of a few years, he has found that the only linear content he is willing to pay for is live sports; that he tends to binge on different genres at particular times of the day; and that he has observed a drop in channel/brand loyalty within the younger generation. He also pontificated on the future of advertising – an element so crucial to broadcasters, but that audiences are keen to avoid – and whether we will observe efforts to use captured data to craft advertisements relevant to particular viewers.
As ever, a great deal of insight and expertise to take away. We very much look forward to the next instalment of TV Connect!
